Tax Prepared Convicted for Filing Hundreds of Bogus Returns

An Orange man was sentenced to 5 years in prison federal prison for filing hundreds of fax tax returns. Ernesto Jesus Suarez, would prepare accurate returns for clients and then provide them with their refund from his own personal account. Then he would falsify their expenses and deductions creating a larger return that he would then keep.

Federal prosecutors say Suarez made out with about $1.4 million in fraudulently obtained returns. In addition to the 5 years in prison, Suarez is also ordered to pay $753,000 in restitution.
