Santa Ana Father Child With Child Abuse

Posted by Courtney Pilchman | Sep 15, 2011 | 0 Comments

On September 14, 2011, a father was charged with slapping his minor child until he cried and then threw the 7-year old boy overboard during a pleasure cruise in Newport Beach, California.

Sloan Briles, of Irvine, California was alleged to have been drinking alcohol prior to the incident, authorities said. When other passengers became enraged at his outrageous conduct, Briles jumped into the water to retrieve the child.

While Briles contends he was “roughhousing” with the child, Orange County prosecutors do not agree. The Orange County District Attorney's Office charged Briles with one felony count of PC 273a(a) child endangerment and one misdemeanor PC 148(a)(1), Resisting or Obstructing a Peace Officer. If Briles is convicted, his maximum exposure in state prison is six years.

Briles was arrested on board the ship and later released on $100,00 bond. His arraignment is set for September 26, 2011.
