A man who fled to South Korea after he caused a crash in Fountain Valley was sentenced to 9 years in state prison. Youn Bum Lee, plead guilty in November to vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated and a sentencing enhancement for leaving the scene of an accident. Lee was travelling down the 55 freeway in Orange County, California when he collided with 23 year-old Ryan Cook. Cook was returning to his home in Huntington Beach when he was Killed on October 19, 2005.
Lee, formerly of Irvine, was an executive with Hyundai Motor Company of America. He was out drinking driving when he lost control of his Hyundai SUV and crashed into Cook. After the accident, Lee boarded a flight to Seoul, South Korea living his family behind. After the Orange County District Attorney's Office filed charges in April 2007, Lee was arrested in Seoul and extradited back to Orange County.
