Brian Burchfield, 22 of Irvine in Orange County was sentenced to 10 years in prison for crashing his truck into a car driven by Samira Bahu, killing her passenger, Ashley Knight. Burchfield, was driving under the influence of alcohol the night of November 16, 2007.

Burchfield was charged with gross vehicle manslaughter and DUI causing injury or death. Judge Carla Singer sentenced Burchfield to 10 years, 8 months in state prison for the crash that killed Knight.

According to Orange County prosecutor Eric Scarbrough, Burchfield had been drinking for several hours before the crash and had even been urged not to drive by his friends. Unfortunately, he did not heed the advice of his friends and killed Knight, a 21 year old Cal Fullerton College student and seriously injuring Bahu.
